Every Friday of the Summer Reading Challenge will be a “Day of Reading.” Probably none of us can read all day the ways we might have in the summers as a kid, but collectively we can read all day 😊. Each Friday we will read for a different nonprofit, using our reading to contribute to good in the world! In honor of the this being the 10th anniversary of the Summer Reading Challenge, if we read 10 hours on a Friday, these 10 nonprofits will receive a $100 donation
The goal: collectively read 10 hours each Friday
How to participate: read 30 minutes on a Friday and either tag, DM, or email me (messymiddle@gmail.com). I’ll share on Instagram, giving more of a communal feel to the Summer Reading Challenge as we participate in the joy of seeing the goal reached!
Disclaimer: I’ve had a stern chat with myself because I can’t bear to think of any of the following nonprofits missing out on us reading for them. But, if we collectively don’t make the goal of 10 hours (that’s 20 people), they will not receive a donation. You are needed 😊. Let’s read for fun and for good!
Now, on to the big reveal! We’re reading for affordable car repairs, homeless, children, camps, kidneys, orphans, kids in foster care, immigrants, food, books, and more!
Thank you for nominating these organizations. I love the variety and choose both domestic to the U.S. and international. I tried to hit various parts of the country and types of ways that good is being done in the world. I love that our reading gets to help them 😊.

BONUS: The last day of the reading challenge is my mom’s birthday. As a wrap up to our summer and in honor of my mom sharing her love of reading with me and so many, we’ll be able to help one more nonprofit! If we read 10 hours for all 10 weeks, a bonus donation to Reach Out and Read will be made. They donate books to pediatrician offices for the well child visits.
You can find the specifics about the Summer Reading Challenge here. Happy Reading! I look forward to reading each week with you, sharing what I’m reading and seeing what you’re reading 😊.

I love the Summer Reading Challenge and love the new categories too! I’m also very excited for this excuse to read a little extra on Fridays, and love that there are a number of amazing organizations on this list I’d never heard of before. -Should it be Friday in our own time zone, or Friday in MDT? Like, if I read on a Saturday morning before midnight your time, does it count? I’m guessing I’m not the only one in the eastern hemisphere participating, so thought I’d ask. :)
Michele, great question :)! For simplicity and all of us not needing to think too hard …. read on the Friday where you are in the world :)! Since this is a “day of reading” that’s for reading during the work day (feels so decadent sometimes!) AND for my sanity, we have through 5 p.m. Mountain Time on Fridays … but since I’m “behind” much of the world, we actually have more than a day to read :). Happy reading on your Fridays :)!!
So excited for this.
