A little over a week ago I got the exciting news that I’ve been chosen to be part of a book launch team. If you know my love for reading, it’s a bit like a crack user being asked to become a dealer — only it’s something so much better than crack!
As part of the launch team I was given an advanced copy of the book and have been reading it semi-slowly so that I don’t miss something in my enthusiasm. The book by Mary DeMuth, entitled Everything, will come out in October. In it she shares her story of how Jesus become her everything, and what He means to her.
How about this gentle reminder:
He created us for adventure, not ease.
Mary DeMuth
So far, what has impressed me is that this doesn’t seem to be Christian-lite writing. You know, the kind of take on life where if you just pray the right way, do the right thing, and basically ignore the messy, painful world around you, everything is great. This is a book that dives into the wonder and muck of life and comes up saying (and showing) that Jesus is, truly, everything.
Launch teammies were also asked to make a 15 second video giving our name, where we live, and how Jesus is our everything. Here’s mine … but I have to warn you, unlike my normal verbose self somehow I got all that information into a seven second sound bite. You may need to watch it twice :)
This was filmed by my new friend Melissa (and by new friend I don’t mean I handed the camera to someone on the Great Wall I don’t know; I mean, she’s recently come to Beijing with her family and is going through a month long orientation to life in China. A group of us went to the Great Wall on Saturday and though I’ve only known her two weeks, by making her record me while a group of Chinese and Africans watched, I’m kind of breaking her into what being around me is like. I’ll just leave it at that.). Again, I warn you, I mean every word, but if you blink you might miss it:
Subscribers, you can click here to watch the video.
If you would like to see sample chapters from her book, she’s letting me give this link away to you. Click herefor free samples of the book
If someone gave you 15 seconds and a video camera, what would you say? How has Jesus been your everything?
I realized that Jesus was my everything when the idols of my heart failed.
BTW the quote you posted from the book reminds me of one I recently posted on fb.
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing – Helen Keller
I for one don’t want a whole lot of nothing.
Idols. Oh yes, I recognize that one in myself!
Yes, indeed He does have your back. And all around you too. Thanks for living for Jesus!
Thanks for stopping by Mary!
I realized Jesus was my everything when I returned to my house, my college, and my apartment in China and no place was “home” except my times when we sat wherever and just talked.
Abram, what a blessing to hear from you! And for sharing. Thanks!
