Sexuality should not be seen as dualistic –all good or all bad — but as a good part of our created nature that is constantly in need of repair. The process teaches people to be sensitive and soft-hearted to God and each other and does not end after a person is married, because sexual sin can invade every life. We must rely on spiritual solutions such as prayer, discernment, and other spiritual disciplines. Remember, Jesus raised the bar beyond skin-on-skin contact and said even a simple thing like sexual thoughts can defile us. Our approach should embrace this high standard of sexuality: it is ultimately a matter of the heart, and brokenness is as common as our private thoughts and attitudes as it is in our behaviors.
Raised the bar beyond skin-on-skin contact — and how often we lower it! This quotation points me back to the truth that I cannot segregate parts of me no matter how much I’m fed messages to the contrary.
