I’m going on vacation! And for the first time since I started The Messy Middle, I’m not going to post or check-in here while I’m gone. When my dad died, I was reminded there IS a clock and we are only given so much time in this stage of eternity. With this thought in mind, I emailed dear friends I haven’t seen in years and said, “I miss you. I want to see you. Can I visit?”
Also at the time Dad was dying I said I might run old posts for a while and my friend Gayle said the kindest thing. Don’t. Let us miss you. Be fully present with your family. We will be here when you come back.
I’m going to let you miss me :). But before I go two quick things:
1. Trusting Tuesday will be on THURSDAY the 19th this month. Just keeping you on your toes and maintaining my sanity.
2. My friend Mike left a comment that got me thinking. It was something along the lines of “this being a woman’s blog and all.” He said it kindly, and it made me wonder how you perceive this space. I don’t think of this as a blog for women and assume at least some of you reading are men. So I thought I’d use this as an opportunity to get to know you better.
Here’s the short survey. Thanks in advance for a couple of minutes of your time! The last question is to tell something unique or interesting about YOU! I’ll put mine after the survey, including a photo or two to demonstrate.

One of my interesting/unique facts:
In high school I discovered I have a normal nose and everyone else doesn’t :). My sisters and I were having an after school snack when Elizabeth said, “What in the world are you doing?”
“No, I mean with your nose.”
Nothing, rubbing it.
“Why is it moving?”
What are you talking about? Why wouldn’t it move? It’s a nose!
As only siblings can do, we transitioned to touching each other’s noses and FREAKED out! It turns out I mostly have cartilage in my nose and she has bone. Disgusting hard bone. Like basically everyone.
If only you hard-nosed people had a built in party trick like this:
I look forward to getting to know you better (though it’s anonymous, so you don’t have to worry about me knowing who said what) and will share some of the results after my vacation.
